A couple years ago, someone hit my dm and asked me how they can stop lusting, looking at porn and masturbating. This post is my reply to them, I recently ran across this message and decided it would actually be a good post so here it is.

I don’t think there is an easy, one size fits all answer. I do know this, I struggled with porn and still struggle with sin in general, as all Christians do.

One of the biggest things that caused and causes me to stop any kind of sin is me being fed up. I got tired of being tired. I got tired of being frustrated at myself knowing that I was displeasing GOD.

This also led me on a quest to learn more about myself, why was I doing this? Obviously sin usually brings some form of pleasure so I knew that was one of the reasons, but what were the other reasons? What led me to this place?

After much prayer and self reflection I determined my “triggers” (feelings and thoughts that led me down the path of destruction).

It might sound silly, but I learned that anytime in a 24 hour period where I haven’t prayed, read the Bible or when I get frustrated, hungry, depressed, annoyed , irritated, angry or any other trigger I might have, I turn to sin for a “quick fix” when I should be dealing with the issues directly.

I now know and understand myself very well, I know what my triggers are so I avoid them at all costs. I try to keep my mind focused on GOD and His purpose for my life.

I also learned NOT to make excuses for myself and to repent quickly when I fail. There is also no need for me to wallow in sin once I make a mistake and end up there. I apologize to the Lord and try to put things in place to keep me from falling again.

How much do you REALLY want to please God? It all boils down to a choice. Sin gets easier to avoid the more time you spend away from it. In your situation, the more time you spend away from porn, the easier it is to not go back to it.

You will always be tempted, but remember God always provides a way of escape so that we can flee temptation.

1st Corinthians 10:13
God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

God has empowered every believer by His Holy Spirit to strengthen us in difficult times, you are no different, walk in the strength God has given you.

Romans 8:10-11
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [a]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

This will NOT be easy and you may fail along the way, but learn yourself, keep seeking GOD and YOU WILL be successful at conquering sin, the scripture promises us that.

I hope this was helpful.
